Innovative Approaches

Whether innovation takes the shape of a dispenser that changes the temperature of the skin or a lipstick carton that biodegrades and leaves flower seeds in the earth, beauty packaging pros are clearly reaching new levels in creativity. In “Going the Extra Mile,” you’ll read how designers and marketing executives drew on the ideas of in-house departments and outside suppliers to develop packages that bring something different to the shelf.

Cross-fertilization is also the basis for innovation at Luxe Pack Monaco, which was founded on the idea that all segments of luxury packaging—including beauty, food, wine and jewelry—can gain inspiration from one another. For instance, in a roundtable on how to merge sustainability with luxury packaging, an eco-based fashion designer shared her success stories with personal care, fragrance and cosmetics executives.

Now I’ve read of a collaboration between fashion and personal care: Several clothing lines have incorporated moisturizers and anti-cellulite creams into the fabrics. While the jury is still out on whether this skin care regime is superior to applying the products directly, you’ve got to admire the ingenuity.

You’ll find other examples of innovation and inspiration throughout the Beauty Packaging site this month. Christine Esposito looks at how suppliers have taken dispensers to a whole new level and examines the great strides achieved in glass decoration. You can also read how gift sets have been repositioned to tempt drugstore and department store shoppers.

We hope you enjoy this issue—and please let us know about your latest breakthroughs.

With best wishes for a happy holiday,
